  1. 1870s – 1880s

    The Shepley precinct is used for social gatherings of the town.

  2. 1880s – 1900s

    Dandenong's major sporting teams play the Shepley precinct from 1881 into the early 1900s. AE Stoddart's 1895 English touring side visits, and among the early sides is a women's team, the “Sunflowers”.

  3. 1950s – 1960s

    The ovals opened in 1931 and the main oval became Harry Shepley Oval in 1953. The grandstand was built in 1959, and the club commenced in the Sub-District competition.

  4. 1980s – 2000s

    The club amalgamates with Waverley and steps up to District cricket. Dandenong wins its first men's First XI premiership in 2007, and the club goes on to produce future internationals.

  5. 2010s – 2020s

    We join with Dandenong Women. Our men are successful in 2011 and 2017 after our first triumph in 2007, and our women win in 2019.

The club was formed in 1908 as the Glen Waverley Cricket Club, and became the Waverley Cricket Club in 1961. As the Waverley Cricket Club, we were admitted to the Victorian Cricket Association competition in season 1974-75. At the same meeting, the Dandenong Cricket Club and Ringwood Cricket Club were nominated to join the competition; Dandenong missed out. In 1989 we moved to Dandenong and merged with the Dandenong (Sub-District) Cricket Club, which had formed in the early sixties out of the local Dandenong competition.

The area of Dandenong Park, now known as Shepley Oval, was set aside as crown land for recreational purposes in 1881, and a grandstand was opened on 1 May 1959. Dandenong’s major sporting teams played on it from 1881 until the early 1900s. Among the early teams was a women’s cricket team, the "Sunflowers". Major sport was played at the site of the current market until the late 1960s, when the market expanded and football and cricket moved to an upgraded Shepley Oval. Dandenong Cricket Club won its first Division One Pennant in March 2007 and followed up with its second in 2011, in one of the most famous victories in Premier Cricket history. A third was added in 2018.

In 2017, the members of the DCC and the Dandenong Women’s Cricket Club voted unanimously to merge going forward, commencing a new and exciting chapter in our history. The merger was quickly endorsed, with the women winning the one-day pennant and the T20 championship.

Dandenong Cricket Club exists to help players, volunteers and families find pride in summer cricket. We celebrate high performance, but we measure success through opportunity, safety, respect and the friendships built around Shepley Oval. The Panthers are a club for Premier cricketers, players on the Pathway, committed volunteers, past players and local partners who want to see community sport thrive.
