Sophie Strickland Awarded Life Membership

At the Annual General Meeting last Monday night Sophie Strickland was inducted as a life member following unanimous acclamation.

Sophie began playing with the Dandenong Women’s Cricket Club as a young girl in 2014/15, although her cricketing journey started much earlier.

She commenced as a junior player with her home club, Mt Eliza, and as she developed, she was selected to play representative cricket, including for the South East Country Sharks across several seasons. In 2017, Sophie captained the Under 18 South East Country Sharks team to a State Final victory at the MCG.

Over the years, Sophie has coached numerous representative junior girls’ teams, serving as a role model and mentor for young players. She has continued that leadership at Dandenong and this year has been announced as Paul Hill’s Assistant Coach and is also currently the Victorian Metro Under 16 Female Coach, after serving as an assistant coach for the past few years.

Sophie has also earned selection to the Victorian Women’s Country team on numerous occasions, travelling in January to represent Victoria.

In 2018/19, Sophie was part of the Women’s 1st XI T20 premiership team at Junction Oval, and she again contributed to premiership success in 2024/25. She was also part of the Women’s 1st XI premiership team in 2020/21.

Since the merger between the Dandenong Cricket Club and the Dandenong Women’s Cricket Club, Sophie has been not only an outstanding on-field contributor, but also a leader and hard worker off the field. She has served on the committee for many years, supported events and social functions, and has always been willing to assist wherever needed.

Sophie is reliable, caring, and often the first person to reach out to someone in need with advice and encouragement. Sophie has for the past two seasons been captain our Women’s 1XI team.
