Nav and Ishi to the rescue

ยท Michael Findlay

In the 11th over, the firsts found themselves in big trouble at 4 for 40 chasing 120. Nav and Ishi needed to build a partnership, and added 31 over the next five overs to leave 50 needed off the final five. Plenty Valley had bowled exceptionally well, with scoring opportunities hard to come by.

Ishi then made an aggressive move, striking the ball over and through the field to take 22 from one over. Nav, who had anchored the comeback, added 14 in the next over to secure victory with eight balls remaining.

Ishi finished 54 not out from 29 balls and Nav 36 not out from 39 deliveries, their match-winning stand worth 84 from 50 balls.

In the second match, against Melbourne, the team could not score enough to challenge Melbourne's reply. Ishy top-scored with 23, supported by Sophie and Thivyaa, and strong bowling again restricted the opposition, with Emma Hart taking three wickets.

The thirds travelled to Geelong and finished ahead of Plenty Valley in their first match, Anuki batting through for 46 not out, before chasing 102 in the penultimate over in the second, Evie Paternott contributing 33 not out.

Five wins from six matches made for an outstanding weekend for the club.
